The song Jesus, Name Above All Names is one of my all-time favorites. Its greatness doesn’t come from a catchy melody or intricate wordplay. Rather, its greatness comes from its elegant simplicity. Many songs want to preach a sermon set to a tune, but Jesus, Name Above All Names presents the various names of Jesus without any additional commentary. This format provides me, as a singer, the freedom to explore a different aspect of Jesus every time I sing the song, making the experience new and different each time.

ETERNITY IN THE HEART

Solomon said that God set eternity in the hearts of men (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Solomon experienced every earthly pleasure possible and made this tremendous statement. “Eternity” refers to a deep abiding awareness of something beyond this life. In every human soul is a God-given awareness that there is “something more” than the darkness of this world. One of my heroes was Tom Landry from Mission, Texas. In WWII he flew thirty missions as a B-17 pilot. He later coached the Dallas Cowboys for twenty-nine seasons. Tom was a God fearing man, who would arrive at Texas Stadium just before a Sunday game… always after teaching a bible class at his church. I was blessed to meet him at a business banquet in 1994. He was quiet, unassuming, and tried not to be noticed… not possible! At the podium these were the first words he spoke from memory… from his heart:
