• Two Philosophies of Preaching

Two Philosophies of Preaching The clarity of the message of every prophet of God stands in marked contrast to much of the preaching done today. While it might be true that some have been too harsh in their preaching throughout … Read More

  • Complaining and Discontentment

Complaining and Discontentment  Ruin Your Heart For more than fifteen years I have challenged parents to find more time to study God’s Word and train up their children. Oftentimes, I was met with the excuse: “We just don’t have enough … Read More

  • Are Feelings Or Conscience A Safe Guide?
Are Feelings Or Conscience A Safe Guide?

If God allowed everyone to follow their own feelings, then there would be no need for the Bible. You would believe…

    We Live in Interesting Times

The elders of the Stoneridge church of Christ have been monitoring the coronavirus CoVid-19 situation closely and have been considering the impacts on our congregation. After much discussion and consideration of all the information we have available to us, we have decided that it would be most prudent to cancel services at the building for the next 2 weeks. The situation will be reevaluated at that time.

However, this does not mean that we have no…

  • How Precious Is Your Soul?

As I sit here holding my newborn baby there are many thoughts and emotions that constantly run through my mind. First of all, of course, there is the joy and excitement that comes from this occasion. Being able to look into his little eyes and see the purity of his heart. Being able to look at him and know that he is truly a blessing from God, a creature that was made in His own image (Gen. 1:26). I also, however, can’t help but have some thoughts of fear. I am scared knowing the way the world is turning, the way the people of this earth…

  • Why Are We Losing Our Young People

During our recent study of I Samuel, we noticed how Eli’s sons did not know the Lord (2:12). We also saw that Samuel’s sons, Joel and Abijah, did not walk in their father’s way (8:3). The question then becomes why? Were Eli and Samuel not the father they ought to be? Were they raised right and yet still not faithful to the Lord? What caused them to stray from God?

These questions are very similar questions we see today. When you look at couples who are very strong and faithful to God, yet their children are not, we begin to wonder what happened to cause them…

  • Science and the Bible

The Bible begins with these words, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” There are many people in the world who do not believe that statement. Some say God does not exist, and therefore, the Bible cannot be His Word. Some may even argue that the Bible is not scientifically accurate and therefore has no merit. However, whenever the Bible makes a statement relating to a scientific principle, it is completely accurate. Let us notice some examples of the harmony between science and the Bible.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”…

  • Building On A Strong Foundation

Matthew 7:24-27 says, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Now everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it…

  • Thoughts from II Peter: Grow and Don’t Stray
Peter urged the church to stand firm in his first letter and he does so again in the second. This is the theme of II Peter; to stand firm by growing and not departing from sound teachings. Within this theme, Peter offers several reminders:
    1. Godly living is the evidence of salvation. If Christians really believe what they say they believe, they will display moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love. II Peter 1:3
    2. Scriptural truth and prophecy are only from God. The teachings Peter and the apostles passed on weren't something they invented; they were eyewitnesses…
