    Ready to Give a Defense

(Drawn Out: I & II Peter & Jude)

As our 2019 theme ends, consider what Nathan and Eric wrote about I Peter 3:15.

Some take the passage in I Peter 3:15 (“always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you..”) to say we should be ready to give an answer to any and all questions about the doctrinal views we hold, what we believe we can/cannot do in worship, how we feel about “this and that,” etc. However, the context here
is specifically dealing with a defense for the hope Christians have. While we should all know and have a foundation for why we believe and…

Is There a Gospel For the Happy?

She said, “ I know you have a gospel for the poor, the hurting, the unhappy; do you have a gospel for the happy?”

I know we have a gospel for those weighed down with sins; do we have a gospel for those who aren’t burdened down with sins?

Is our gospel only one of assurance for the fearful, a promise of future deliverance to the captives and the oppressed; is it pretty much described in the old hymn, “We’ll understand it better by and by?

We do hear Jesus say, “If you’re weary and heavy laden come unto me and I will…

    Growth & Spiritual Foundations

(Drawing Out: I & II Peter & Jude)

Having established principles of brotherly love, Peter begins I Peter 2:1-10 by introducing another foundational principle: you can’t grow plants in a garden before getting rid of the weeds. In other words, there are some things we need to get rid of before we put on something else. Peter told his readers there are some things that would hinder spiritual love for brethren, and they should work to rid their lives of those qualities (I Peter 1:22). Once these qualities were removed, Peter exhorted them to drink spiritual milk. The focus is not on milk, but rather on “longing”…

    Reach Out and Touch Someone

It may well be that the besetting sin of modern day discipleship is its failure to procreate itself. Speed has been so aggrandized in our society that it has become necessary that whatever we do we must do in a hurry.  We seem to be possessed with a determination to succeed more than to be spiritually inclined and equip ourselves for eternity, so we tend to put off thing that don’t pertain to our quests.  One of those things is reaching out and touching someone.

    Persecution (and the lack thereof)

Persecution (and the lack thereof) In a Bible class recently we discussed Romans chapter 8:17, “and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” The point was … Read More

    Chosen

Chosen There was no one – and I mean absolutely NO ONE in the entire universe – who had it as incredibly good as God’s Old Testament people Israel. Moses reminded them of that yet again in Deuteronomy 4:7 when … Read More

What Is The Authority In Christianity?

What Is the Authority in Christianity?

    By: Garland M. Robinson

For any government, religion, or even family situation to exist, there must be an established authority or code of law. There must be a rule to which men can appeal to solve and answer disputes. This is recognized in all societies, whether religious or secular. Yet look at the confusion and division that exists among religious groups that propose to follow Christ. Has God left us without such a law?…

Church of God or Church of Christ

Church of God or Church of Christ Why does Paul address the church as “the church of God” rather than “the church of Christ”?  (1 Cor. 1:2; 2 Cor. 1:1)  In these passages he is speaking to all the saints.  … Read More
