As we begin 2022, we feel refreshed and ready to start a new year with the goals and resolutions to improve ourselves going forward. One way that we do this is with a renewed focus on spiritual things. The Elders help us channel this refocus with a specific plan we can strive to reflect upon and grow throughout the year. According to evolution, people are just apes who grew bigger brains, stood upright, and lost most of their body hair (I’ve lost more than most). One anthropologist wrote a book about mankind entitled The Naked Ape. According to Scripture, God made both the man and the woman “in His own image” (Genesis 1:27).

From time to time, I've had conversations with folks who insist that the Lord speaks directly to them. Some borrow language from an encounter Elijah had with God in 1 Kings 19:12 ("a still small voice"). One described the Lord's voice as being loud and authoritative. Another said that she hears multiple voices, and must discern which of them is God speaking to her.
