    Today I Carried A Memory

I, along with many others, took time to pause and show respect for this memory. We viewed this memory and enjoyed the times past that brought smiles to our faces. We sang songs of praise that brought the moment in time to a stop so that we were forced to realize the reality of the situation. We prayed for the memory, we spoke of the life of the memory, we were encouraged by the words given on behalf of this memory. People lined up to pay their respects to this memory and those who had…

  • Mercy and Truth

Proverbs 16:6 In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.

God has always dealt with sin the same. For man to ever have his sin forgiven God knew it was going to take mercy and truth from God. From man’s end there was going to have to be a response to this truth resulting in repentance from the sin. How did God show mercy toward mankind and give us the truth that we needed to find our way to…

  • Ahab and Jehoshaphat: A Cautionary Tale

2 Chronicles 18 tells the story of an unlikely partnership: Jehoshaphat, the godly king of Judah, and Ahab, the wicked king of Israel, joined together to make war against Syria.

Before going to battle, Jehoshaphat was intent on asking God’s will. Ahab summoned 400 of his prophets, all of whom, unsurprisingly, foretold victory. Jehoshaphat then asked if there was not a prophet of the Lord to consult (it seems he could tell the difference!). Ahab said there was one, the prophet Micaiah — “but I hate him, for he never prophesies good…

  • Boiling Our Oxen

Boiling Our Oxen Elijah was a prophet of God during the reign of king Ahab and queen Jezebel, a wicked and cruel couple. At one point, he was ready to just give up, but God would not let him. Instead, … Read More

  • False Standards of Truth

Some folk prate about "having the truth" when it is evident they can't give chapter and verse for their contention. I wonder how they know they have the truth? When Jesus said, "Thy (God's) word is truth;" (Jn.17:17) He stated the dependability of God, and the accuracy and integrity of His teaching. In a sense, people are "set apart" by false doctrines and practice, (witness sectarianism) but Jesus prayed that the Apostles might be set apart by their acceptance and adherence to TRUTH.

  • Life Is Too Short to Waste

Suffering Job observed, “Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble” (Job 14:1). Sadly, many of us waste those few days because we’re too busy focusing on — and sometimes creating — the trouble! Life is too short to waste.

Life is too short to waste on petty grudges. “A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression” (Proverbs 19:11). “Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools”…

    Looking For A Church?
Are you looking for a church? Many of us look for churches about like we shop for cars: assuming any will get us where we want to go, we opt for the one that has the most features we like.

What features are we looking for? Convenience, a nice facility, an interesting (and not too long-winded) preacher who is cool and trendy, friendly people, exciting worship, and usually, lots of social services: day care, schools, recreation, support groups, health care classes, holiday activities, etc.

Some look especially for a church in which they can exercise their talent:…
