I appreciate when someone takes me into consideration, my likes, and interests, and gives me a gift that's meaningful. BE AS ENTHUSIASTIC about the church and its services as you would be if there were an overflowing crowd each time. Think of the interest, anticipation, and excitement of an overflow crowd!

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matt. 5:14). In the immediate context of this verse Jesus set His followers in contrast with the rest of the world. This verse calls attention to a world that exists in darkness due to sin. The lives of followers of Jesus, in contrast, radiate the light of righteousness. The difference between His followers and the rest of the world is so stark that Jesus uses the illustration of a city built on a hillside.

We know what the work of the church IS NOT. And though our visitors may not always understand what is meant by the wording of such announcements, we should not apologize for making the distinction. But just because we can clearly identify the activities that the church is not organizing or funding does not mean that we understand what the work of the church IS.
