“Sing to One Another & Sing to the Lord”

"Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the LORD" (Ephesians 5:19).

"Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! Sing to the LORD, all the earth" (Psalm 96:1).

  • Why did Moses and the Israelites sing (Exodus 15: 1 – 18)?

    The first recorded song in the Bible praised God for His power which was directed toward Pharaoh and an example to the Israelites.

  • Why did Deborah and Bark sing (Judges 5)?

    God provided the Israelites with victory over Sisera and his 900 iron chariots.

  • Why did Hannah sing (I Samuel 2)?

    After God answered her prayer for a son, she dedicated him to the Lord and praised God for His faithfulness.

  • Why did David sing (I Chronicles 16)?

    David wrote at least seventy-three psalms that expressed fear, joy, excitement, praise and thankfulness. The song in I Chronicles is thankful for the wonderful works God had performed for His people through the ages.

  • Why did Mary sing (Luke 1:46-55)?

    After being told she would serve as the mother of God's Son, she expressed her awe at what God was preparing to do — through her.
