Here at the Cedar Park church of Christ, we have written articles through The Exhorter for many years! Over the years, numerous writers have written articles pertaining to everything from salvation to personal growth, as well as ways to study your Bible more effectively, sometimes using light humorous stories, poetry, biographies, or a sense of urgency. While these are all very beneficial things, they still leave the obvious question: what does it mean to exhort, or to be an exhorter? A quick Google search says the word “exhort” these days means: “to strongly encourage or urge (someone) to do something.”…

I grew up on a farm in the Panhandle of Texas. In the recesses of my heart, it will always be "home." I loved wheat harvest. Golden heads of ripened wheat are one of God's inspiring portraits in this world. Mom would bring lunch to the field. The eighth chapter of Acts begins with the persecution of the church in Jerusalem forcing all but the apostles to scatter throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria. I think it’s important to note that those who had been forced to scatter did so while still proclaiming the good news of the word (Acts 8:4). This led Philip to the main city of Samaria where he began proclaiming Christ to the local citizens. There is a story about David before he becomes king. Saul had been chasing him around for years, until finally David is driven from his heritage to the land of the Philistines, the enemies of the Hebrews. Somehow, even though David was a mighty warrior for Saul, he finds favor in the eyes of Achish, one of the princes of Philistia, who gives David and his followers a city to dwell in by the name of Ziklag.
