Giving Evidence as a Witness for Christ

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Romans 12:2

As a follow up to Brother Chumbley's series of lessons on evidences, I'd like to point out one more witness of testimony that is a powerful tool in leading others to Christ…ourselves. A strong, convicted Christian gets the attention of the outside world through their godly conduct. If we yield the fruits of the spirit in our daily lives (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control), people will notice!

Consider the power of God's word in changing the heart, conduct and actions of a convert. We truly do become a "new person", putting to death our old selves. This transformation from a self-centered, sinful life to one that is godly and Christ-centered is so strong people will often ask, "What happened to them?" Often the answer in the common vernacular is, "Oh, they found God" (typically delivered with a derogatory tone), but we know that conversion causes joy in Heaven and on Earth!

Paul gives us a specific game plan on how to produce godly fruit throughout our lives in Romans 12:9-21. Think of how much stronger of a witness could we be if we actually used this list as a working faith checklist provided by scripture to guide our actions! Just practice and do the following:

  • Show genuine love
  • Hate evil
  • Hold fast to good
  • Honor others above self
  • Be quick to show zeal
  • Be fervent in spirit
  • Serve the Lord
  • Be joyful in your hope
  • Be patient in affliction
  • Be faithful in prayer
  • Share with needy saints
  • Seek to show hospitality
  • Bless your persecutors
  • Rejoice with those rejoicing
  • Mourn with those mourning
  • Live in harmony
  • Don't be proud
  • Associate with the lowly
  • Don't be conceited
  • Don't return evil for evil
  • Do what is right
  • Do your part to live in peace with all
  • Don't take revenge
  • Feed your hungry enemy
  • Provide drink to a thirsty enemy
