Recently Apple released the iPhone 11 Pro, the latest in a series of what are called “smart phones.” Amazon has developed a product that they term “smart glasses,” a pair of glasses that look nearly identical to a normal pair but allow the wearer to speak to and hear a virtual assistant from anywhere. Here at the Cedar Park church of Christ, we have written articles through The Exhorter for many years! Over the years, numerous writers have written articles pertaining to everything from salvation to personal growth, as well as ways to study your Bible more effectively, sometimes using light humorous stories, poetry, biographies, or a sense of urgency. While these are all very beneficial things, they still leave the obvious question: what does it mean to exhort, or to be an exhorter? A quick Google search says the word “exhort” these days means: “to strongly encourage or urge (someone) to do something.”…

The eighth chapter of Acts begins with the persecution of the church in Jerusalem forcing all but the apostles to scatter throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria. I think it’s important to note that those who had been forced to scatter did so while still proclaiming the good news of the word (Acts 8:4). This led Philip to the main city of Samaria where he began proclaiming Christ to the local citizens.
