What Does The Bible Say About Drug Use?

Many people struggle with drug addiction and the allure of using drugs all over the world. This isn't a new concept, phenomenon or human desire. Drug use is no respecter of persons and effects all levels of social economics, age, gender, race, and regions of the world. The effects of drug abuse are clearly documented in the medical community and are clearly seen in the deterioration in the human body and social in our families and communities.

However, what does the Bible say about drug use?!?!?! That's the question. We as human beings are usually looking for a reason NOT to do something and some times social and physical reasons are not good enough. So since God says in Isaiah 43:10, "...Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me," and we know from 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work," we must go to the source for our questions regarding our lives and our responsibility while in the flesh.

Although the Bible never specifically mentions specific illicit drugs use outside of alcohol it does mention being sober minded and is very clear on how we should regard our mind and our bodies and what they mean to God. Below are a few Bible verses that should help us with our understanding of if we are suppose to be indulging in drugs socially, recreationally, or habitually.

Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things.

And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
