At the Touch of a Button

We live in a marvelous technological age. Think about it:

At the touch of a button, I can cook a hot meal to eat … get an ice cold drink … adjust the firmness of the mattress on my bed.

At the touch of a button, I can pay a bill … see the weather forecast for any place in the world … order groceries for my family — or for someone else.

At the touch of a button, I can access thousands of brilliant works of literature and music … send a message that encourages and uplifts someone … donate money to help people in need … and much more.

But also …

At the touch of a button, I can view a pornographic video … promote gossip and slander … listen to a song with lyrics that glorify moral garbage.

At the touch of a button, I can send a message that insults, degrades, and hurts someone … lend my approval to something I should abhor … put myself and my family into crippling debt.

At the touch of a button, I can do or say something that could destroy my reputation, my career, or my relationship with another person … and much, much more.

Never before has it been so easy to do so much good in so many ways. And never before has it been so easy to do so much evil. You have the power to choose — every day, every moment. Choose wisely.

“Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them … Consider carefully how you live — not as unwise but as wise, taking advantage of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 4:11, 15-16, NET).
