Daily Reminders
The apostle Peter wrote his second letter to stir up the sincere minds of his readers by way of reminder, that they should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by the apostles – 3:1-2.
We all need to be reminded from time to time. Even the letters on the Lord’s Table serve as a weekly reminder. This article contains a short list of things about which we all need reminding.
1. Always put God first in your daily life and thoughts. Else, He soon will become last. Check the many daily reminders in the following Scripture – Deut. 6:4-12. This guards against forgetting God when we become more affluent.
2. Pray without ceasing – 1 Thess. 5:17. NOTE: You do not always have to be on your knees to pray. You can pray shorter prayers even while driving, or in class, or at work, to ask God for wisdom and strength while you thank Him continually for guidance and for all your many blessings.
3. Check your daily walk that you may be worthy of your calling with all humility and gentleness with patience, showing tolerance for one another with love - Eph. 4:1-2.
4. Try always to have a positive attitude, even when the going gets tough, knowing that all trials and tribulations work endurance which will make you stronger and more joyous – Rom. 5:3-5; James 1:2-3.
5. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you and me in Christ Jesus – 1 Thess. 5:16-18.
6. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus – Phil. 4:6-7.
7. Always tell and show your love for the truth regardless of the consequences. Abide in the word to be a true disciple of Christ, to know the truth, and to be made free – John 8:31-32. Be quick to admit when you are wrong and apologize if needed. NOTE: Truth is truth and is always singular in the Bible and is never used in the plural – John 17:17; Psalm 119:160.
8. Try always to be glad when it is time to assemble with the saints – Psa. 122:1. This gives opportunities to grow and to encourage and edify those for whom we are praying.
9. We must learn to love what God loves and to hate what He hates – Rom. 12:9b; Heb. 1:9. We are to take care that no unwholesome words proceed out of our mouths, but only such words that are good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to the hearer – Eph. 4:29. God wants us to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil; to be infants in evil, but in thinking, be mature – Rom. 16:19b; 1 Cor. 14:20b. Do not make a trash can out of your mind. Keep your mind clean!
10. We must be careful choosing our closest friends, and try to make friends with those of like precious faith, for bad company corrupts good morals – Psa. 1:1-2; 1 Cor. 15:33.
11. We must remember that we generally do what we think about – Phil. 4:8-9. NOTE: The thinking is in verse 8 and the doing follows in verse 9.
The apostle Peter included in his letter of reminders what has been called the Christian graces. We are directed with all diligence in our faith to supply moral excellence, and to our moral excellence supply knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control, and in our self-control, perseverance, and in our perseverance, godliness, and in our godliness, brotherly kindness, and in our brotherly kindness, love. If we give all diligence to practice these things, we will never stumble – 2 Peter 1:5-10.
